Lynching and Birth of a Nation

Today students learned about the 1915 film Birth of a Nation, and its influence on racial stereotypes and portrayal of Reconstruction as a failure. With this context, students viewed a series of postcards of lynchings. As the viewed the pictures and heard the descriptions, students focused on four elements: time, victim, location, and reason. The postcards can be found at this website.

Read African-American history packet. Answer the "Chapter Check" questions at the end of each section. DUE tomorrow 3/30.
