Guns, Germs, and Steel


Today students watched the episode from Guns, Germs, and Steel dealing with the conquest of the Incan empire [see below].

BBF Chapter 2 Test Questions: On Wednesday 9/26 you will take a quiz over the chapter. You will be asked to answer two of these questions. 
  1. How did European economic needs and wants shape colonial society (i.e., social hierarchy and government structure)? Provide several examples in your explanation.
  2. Contrast the Spanish and Portuguese colonization efforts. What techniques did they use? To what ends or goals?
  3. In your own words, define the concept of hegemony. How did religion, patronage, and patriarchy create hegemonic control by the minority Europeans in the New World?
  4. What is transculturation? Provide examples and explanation..
  5. What was the purpose of the caste system? Describe some categories of the caste system.
