- I finished a presentation about the Indian wars (see previous post).
- Students read an excerpt from the book Lakota Woman by Mary Crow Dog. While reading, they completed the following: Highlight examples of mistreatment; Underline attempts at assimilation; How did the students resist?; Circle two quotes from the text on the “Indian School” handout.
- Students viewed a document pertaining to the assimilation of Grande Ronde Indians in Oregon. They analyzed the governments attempts at removing elements of Indian culture.
- Students then listened to a podcast (from around 8:00 to 18:00) about the Carlisle Indian School football team. They took notes using this sheet.
