I gave a brief lecture on the material covered in Born in Blood and Fire Chapter 2 (see below) Next, students were introduced to a debate in El Paso, Texas , over the construction of a statue of Juan de Onate, a Spanish conquistador who attacked a village of Pueblo Indians. Students watched this clip, then debated arguments for and against building the statue. To finish, they discussed the worth of tax payers funding public art.
