The Spanish American War

Agenda: Over the past few lessons, students have been learning about the Spanish American War.
  1. Students took notes on a lecture about America at the turn of the Century and the reasons the US entered into a war with Spain to "free" Cuba and The Philippines. Click here for my lecture notes
  2. Students read an excerpt from a illustrated version of Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States.
  3. Students read documents illustrating differing attitudes held by Americans concerning immigration and the acquisition of new territories.
  4. Students watched Crash Course: American Imperialism [below].
  5. Students participated in a simulation, investigating the question, "Should the US annex the Philippines?"
