- Students watched film clips from several films.
- Students read excerpts from two articles about how The Civil War is remembered in the South.
- Students discussed the articles and these questions:"How is the Civil War and South of the past remembered? How should it be remembered? Taught? Should places and monuments named after Confederate heroes be renamed? Is there a better way to commemorate the past?"
HOMEWORK:
There will be a QUIZ on Reconstruction 11/2-3. Below are the prompts. You will be given TWO to answer at random.
- Compare the situation faced by former slaves, plantation owners, and confederate leaders after the Civil War.
- Explain the changes and continuity (sameness) in the South following the Civil War.
- Explain Reconstruction in literal and figurative terms. Provide specific examples.
- Who were the Radical Republicans? Assess how well the ideals and goals of the Radical Republicans regarding Reconstruction matched reality.
