The Cold War: Chile

Students began learning about the 1973 coup in Chile.

1. Students wrote thank you notes to our guest speaker, Dave Edgar. Dave spoke with the classes yesterday about his experiences in Nicaragua as a soldier and a civilian.
2. Students read pages 291-295 from Born in Blood and Fire  about events in Chile in 1973. They took notes on their BBF Chapter 9 worksheets.
3. Students discussed the Milgram experience and the issues around responsibility, following orders, and criminal activities within the context of the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet [below].
4. Students began watching the film The Judge and the General about the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Students took notes as they watched the film about crimes, victims, and perpetrators.
5. Students will write an indictment for the crimes committed by the Pinochet regime.
