QUIZ: Slavery, The Civil War, and Reconstruction

On Friday students will take a quiz over the Civil War and Reconstruction. Students will be asked to answer to of the following prompts:

• Assess the relative strengths of the North and the South at the beginning of the United States Civil War in 1861.
• Reconstruction was a failure. Support or defend this statement with historical evidence.
• Identify and explain major events that contributed to sectionalism (division amongst the North and South) in the United States prior to the Civil War.
• Who were the Radical Republicans? How did their visions of Reconstruction differ from President Andrew Johnson?
• How free were ex-slaves after the Civil War? Provide historical evidence in your answer.
