We began with a discussion of the question, "What standards should history use to judge leaders?" Students brainstormed a list of qualities and criteria. Students read a wide selection of reactions to Fidel Castro's resignation then completed a worksheet, organizing the differing perspectives. Afterwards, students considered where they would place Castro on spectrum below based upon the standards by which history should judge leaders:
