Today students watched clips from the PBS series The West. They took notes on two confrontations between Native Americans and the US Government. Today they looked at the Sand Creek Massacre and Red Cloud's War. Transcripts from these segments can be found at The West website. They watched "Who is the Savage?" and "The Everywhere Spirit" from Episode 4 - Death Runs Riot.
At the beginning of class, students watched the trailer to the 1960 John Wayne movie, The Alamo, and looked at the Oregon Trail computer game. These types of media contribute to their understanding of history and I wanted students to add to this narrative in their head.
HOMEWORK:
American Pageant, pgs. 504-599, 600-601, 40-41. Read. Take notes. Use notes to summarize each section.
