The Creation of Whiteness in the United States

Agenda 10/24-26:
  1. Students defined ideas of race and racism. 
  2. They viewed a series of images of multiracial people, exploring inconsistencies in using broad racial labels like "white" or "Asian"[below].
  3. Students listened to the podcast Whiteness in America: Skin Deep. They took notes using the "four stories" mention in the first 20 minutes. At the end, they read a series of slave laws that illustrate how whiteness was created in the United States. Stories: . Punch > Key > Lawmakers > Who Counts?
  4. Students began researching rebellions by enslaved people.
