Monday - 5/9- Students discussed the iconic image of Che Guevara.
- I posed the question, "Who was Che?"
- Students began reading an excerpt from a graphic novel about Che considering this question.
Tuesday - 5/10
- Students watch a clip from the documentary, Fidel Castro. The documentary can be downloaded from the Multnomah Public Library video service. Students watched the clips from "Moncada" to "Revolutionary Reforms". Students took notes on these key terms:
- Granma
- 26th de Julio Movement
- Sierra Maestra
- Mistakes and Fate of the Batista Regime
- Revolutionary Reforms
- Nikita Khrushchev
Wednesday - 5/11
- Students watched a New York Times feature about the commercialization of the image of Che Guevara.
- Students read and discussed a story about the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Students considered how it exemplified US foreign policy in Latin American during the Cold War.
- Students listened to an NPR broadcast about the 50th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Invasion.
Thursday - 5/12
- Students watched a CNN film about US Intervention in Latin America. They took notes using this worksheet.
