Students began by writing on the prompt, "What programs and organizations should the government be involved in creating and administering? What should they leave to private companies? What should they spend taxpayer money on? What should they not spend taxpayer money on? Students read about different New Deal organizations. They discussed the role of government in these organizations. They considered the question, "Should government or private business be responsible for the work of the organization. We discussed the Tea Party movement's criticism of big government and government spending.
