Banana Republics

I've missed the past two days at district meeting. The students completed two activities on Monday and Tuesday with the sub:

1. Read "White Man's Burden". Write a response poem based upon what you've learned.
2. Epilogue: Spanish American-war

Today, we reviewed the epilogue and discussed the rise of Banana Republics. The students read an excerpt from One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and a excerpt about the United Fruit company.
